Insider Househunting Tips

house hunting appointments

Househunting is usually the most exciting part of the homebuying process for you and your Real Estate Agent. Your Agent will review your Ready Report with you in detail and help you narrow down which available homes are most appealing to you. Then your Agent will set showing appointments for the homes you want to tour in person. Here are insider 5 tips for househunting success!

  1. It’s usually recommended not to tour more than 4 or 5 homes in a particular day. This makes sure that you aren’t overloaded with too many options at once and can keep a clear mind about each home.
  2. Since it can be confusing keeping all of the homes you are touring straight, it’s a good idea to take notes as you go so that later you can remember the features of each home. A trick of the trade is to nickname each house as you tour them so that later on you will be able to associate the features of the home with the right house and not get confused. (e.g. red door house, lake view house, etc.)
  3. Taking pictures can be another great way to remember the different homes you tour. Just make sure you ask before taking pictures inside.
  4. Bring a friend or family member along on your house hunt. Let them know beforehand your wants and needs so that they can keep you on track as you tour homes. Plus it’s always a great idea to get a second opinion!
  5. While you will sometimes have to make a decision quickly based on the status of a home, if possible, it's a good idea to take a night to “sleep on it” before making an offer. This will help ensure you’re not making an impulse decision.
